Atticus' Birthday Party

During our short stay at home, Atticus had his birthday party! I am just now getting around to blogging it, so here it is:

All of the regulars were there--Atticus' friends Gavin, Clyn, and Matthew

If you couldn't tell from the pix above, it was a water party. Gavin and his kind family lent us their fun water slide--it really is Gavin's as he won it in a raffle at the market.

It was an all boy party, except for sisters and cousins.

Little kids were allowed at the party too only on a family basis--actually Atticus loves the little kids so much! This is Cyra and Porter.

After the water slide, came the loot, and boy did Atticus get some loot!

And what did all of that loot amount to? Well, a complete Harlem outfit from Jared and Mehrsa and Josh and Alicia.

For those of you not familiar with how to tie a du-rag, you could watch a video on You Tube, but still it is best to be shown in person. We had a great time with our friend Gerson who happened to be at BYU that week doing an ACT prep program.

There are few words that a suburban mother can say about these pictures other than my son's got it all going on from the du-rag to the attitude, he's one Harlem style kid!

Again, a note for those of you unfamiliar with Harlem attire: 1) never cut the tag off your cap; 2) always wear your cap off to the side; 3) the twist in the du-rag has to be on the side, but the knot has to be in the back with the little flaps tucked in; 4) bling is a must; 5) pants must be BELOW the hip bones secured only with a very tight belt and a stance requiring that one's legs constantly remain far apart--this includes while walking.

Now, being the multicultural kind of family that we are, we had to pay homage to our California roots as well. Atticus' next present reflects that part of our culture (ok, Harlem really isn't part of our culture, but we sure did love getting to partake of it while riding the BX 15 up and down 125th Street almost everyday.)

And what was in that package?

Chris picked this present out for Atticus, and in future posts, you'll find out the fate of this skateboard, so check back.

Noah and Atticus displaying their tats before the cake (Thanks Aunt Alicia and Uncle Josh--part of the bling package gift!)

Tiare and Ciera frosted the cake--yummy Cool Whip on top of a mint chocolate chip ice cream cake:

It was a great party!

These pictures are awesome. I LOVE that Atticus is so comfortable with the bling and the du-rag. It's ever boy's right of passage, right? I wish I could have been there for this.
